Rhetoric Theology Teacher
Mattie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Virginia Tech (2001) and a Master of Divinity from Liberty University (2020). He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Christian Leadership with a focus on Spiritual Development at Liberty University.
With nearly 20 years of ministry experience, primarily in worship leadership, Mattie served as a worship pastor for eight years at his previous church. In October 2023, he became the pastor of Mount Zion Community Church in Madison, VA, where he continues his passion for shepherding and spiritual growth.
Mattie was drawn to Aletheia by his desire to provide his children with an education that teaches them how to learn, inspires a love for knowledge, and prioritizes spiritual and academic development. The Classical Charlotte Mason philosophy reflects his commitment to an unapologetically Christian foundation for education.
Outside of his ministry and educational pursuits, Mattie is an avid reader who enjoys studying theological topics, especially Puritan writings. He finds inspiration in authors such as John MacArthur, Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Charles Spurgeon, J.C. Ryle, and Thomas Watson.
Mattie’s favorite passage of scripture is, Ephesians 1:3-12 as it highlights the richness of identity in Christ and the sovereignty of God’s original redemption story that came through His one and only son—a truth that profoundly influences his life, ministry, and vision for education.
