Grammar Level Math and Science
Courtney Gunn brings experience in early childhood education, elementary teaching, and homeschooling to her work teaching fourth- and fifth-grade math and science at Aletheia United Academy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and her master’s degree in Teaching from the University of Virginia in 2008. Her graduate training focused on early childhood developmental risk and included certification in special education for children from birth through age five and elementary education for kindergarten through third grade.
From 2009 to 2011, Courtney taught in Albemarle County’s Bright Stars preschool program, which served at-risk children and students with special educational needs. In 2014, she began a new chapter as a homeschool mother and teacher when her oldest child entered kindergarten. Since then, educating her own children has become central to her life and experience as an educator.
Courtney’s family chose a Christian classical homeschool education from the beginning. When Aletheia opened in 2024, she enrolled her two oldest children, eager to give them opportunities to experience the discussion, dialogue, and shared pursuit of wisdom that are hallmarks of classical education. She values how Aletheia partners with families, allowing parents to stay deeply involved in their children’s education while students learn alongside teachers and peers.
Outside the classroom, Courtney enjoys cooking for her three growing boys, working on landscaping and gardening projects, reading, and cross-stitching.
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 is particularly meaningful to Courtney. Its reminder that present circumstances are temporary, while the things of eternity endure, helps her keep life’s challenges in perspective. She finds encouragement in the promise of inward renewal through Christ and in the hope of the eternal inheritance that awaits His people. This perspective shapes the way she approaches both family life and education, encouraging her to look beyond what is immediately visible to what matters most.
