About Leenie Wilcox

Leenie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics with honors from Hamilton College, where her passion for the theoretical aspects of gravitational physics took root. Her undergraduate thesis explored a fascinating anomaly in dark energy models, uncovering a repulsive force within modified gravity—a discovery that challenged conventional understandings of how gravity operates. Following her graduation, Leenie continued this research during a gap year, which led to a fellowship at the University of Virginia. At UVA, she spent two years as a post-baccalaureate researcher, focusing on black holes and innovative methods for detecting dark matter.

Leenie’s love for teaching emerged early in her academic journey. She tutored college students in physics and mathematics, served as an observatory technician, and took on instructional roles as a Learning Assistant, where she often delivered lectures and assisted with lab courses. This blend of advanced research and hands-on teaching has shaped her approach to education.

She was drawn to Aletheia’s classical education model because of its emphasis on understanding foundational principles. To Leenie, true science transcends rote technicality; it’s about cultivating flexible thinking and recognizing the deeper connections between ideas. Much like bricks can build a house, a wall, or a garden bed, understanding the principles behind the tools allows students to decide what to create.

Outside of her work, Leenie enjoys gardening, drawing, reading, and playing music. As a licensed private pilot, she loves flying around the skies of Louisa, VA, whenever time allows.

Leenie’s favorite scripture is John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This verse speaks to her as both a physicist and a believer. While her work aims to explain the natural world, it is limited by the finite nature of creation. John 1:1 offers a profound glimpse into the eternal mystery of the Trinity—a timeless relationship of love between the Father, Son, and Spirit, from which the universe itself was born. This truth fuels her passion for exploring both the wonders of creation and the Creator behind it.
