About Melissa Barrow

Melissa brings a rich blend of academic training, educational experience, and a deep love for learning to her role at Aletheia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Hofstra University, as well as a Master of Education and an Education Specialist degree in School Psychology from The College of William and Mary. Her background uniquely equips her to understand both how students learn and how to support them holistically.

Melissa has spent the past 12 years homeschooling, including five years teaching Essentials of the English Language and IEW Writing through Classical Conversations. In addition to her work as a home educator, she has served as a School Psychologist for Albemarle County Public Schools and as the Regional Manager for CarePortal in Central Virginia. These roles have allowed her to support children, families, and communities with both compassion and expertise.

She is drawn to classical, Charlotte Mason–inspired education because of its emphasis on learning through high-quality literature, asking thoughtful questions, and discovering truth through rich, dialectic discussion. Melissa believes this approach cultivates curiosity, depth of understanding, and a genuine love of learning.

Outside the classroom, Melissa enjoys hiking, reading, movie nights with her family, and experiencing the performing arts—especially dance and theater.

Her guiding scripture is, Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving,” which reminds her to work wholeheartedly for the Lord in all things. This verse anchors her teaching and service in the knowledge that ultimately, it is Christ she is serving.
